Enjoy the four Fs: food, film, fashion and… photography
The festival has invited the celebrated photographer Rankin to curate a three-course dinner inspired by the Italian masterpiece Cinema Paradiso. On arrival you will be given a complimentary Peroni cocktail before being taken to the Princess Anne Theatre at BAFTA 195 Piccadilly to watch the film. Afterwards, enjoy a special dinner devised with the head chef, Anton Manganaro. 17 October, £80.
Get the lowdown on Chinatown
A new special food tour highlights the best of what Chinatown has to offer – and that’s not overpriced, greasy buffets squarely aimed at the tourists, but food from around China and its neighbouring countries. Expect no-frills food at Malaysian restaurant Raya Sayang, or some special dishes from the Guizhou province of China at Maotai Kitchen. £55, 11-12 and 18-19 October.
Try out The Clove Club
If you ever feel the need to convince a foreign guest to London that the food here is worth showing off, pay a visit to one of the city’s loveliest restaurants The Clove Club, a showcase of British produce served in the most interesting ways, such as buttermilk chicken with pine salt (left). Or simply book a ticket for the Champagne Laurent-Perrier Gourmet Odyssey, Discover East London, and the work’s done for you. 18 October, £95.
Tech is changing the way we eat. American Express has teamed up with Bookatable to deliver real-time iBeacon messages to diners as they walk past an LRF restaurant. Download the BAT app now. Don’t have cash? Download the Spleat app to book a table for six people or more at participating restaurants, open a tab, split the bill using your card at the end and get a free cocktail and £5 discount.
The cassoulet is a rich, hearty slow-cooked stew of meat and white beans originating in the south of France that is known for its big and comforting flavours. Join the festival’s Cassoulet Celebration sponsored by Sud de France by ordering a cassoulet in participating restaurants, such as Comptoir Gascon, Galvin at Windows and Boulestin, where you’ll also get a complimentary glass of Languedoc-Roussillon wine.
